Kings point guard Darren Collison has been arrested on domestic violence charges Monday in northern California after police responded to a call that a woman was being assaulted.

Collison was released on $55,000 bail and is expected to be back in court on July 11th.

Police say they found the woman to be visibly injured.

The Kings released a statement later on Tuesday:

"The Sacramento Kings condemn violence of any kind,'' the team said. "We are gathering additional information and once all facts are known we will take appropriate steps.''

Collison is set to enter the final year of a three year deal he signed with the Kings before the 2014-15 season. He averaged 14 points this past season as he played in 74 games.

Perhaps the most interesting part of this whole story may be the consequences handed down by commissioner Adam Silver before the start of next season. The NBA has yet to have a situation of the magnitude of Ray Rice or Greg Hardy in the NFL. Silver has done a great job as NBA commissioner thus far and has been very good at handing down appropriate punishments when needed to.

Will the consequence be enough and accepted by the public?
