For some reason, I'm not shocked at all that this has happened. However, to witness this dramatic fall from grace over the last 3 years has been sad, depressing and disappointing. According to ESPN reporter Adam Schefter, the Minnesota Vikings are expected to grant quarterback Donovan McNabb's request to be released.

Back in mid-October, Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier decided to bench McNabb in favor of Christian Ponder, the rookie first-round draft pick out of Florida State. Since then, McNabb has been "riding pine," not taking a single snap in an NFL game. At the time, Frazier based his decision on "what gave  the team the best chance to win."

At the time of his benching, McNabb told the media that he believes he still has a lot of football left in him. When he was pulled from the starting role in Minnesota, the Vikings were 1-5 under McNabb. Since then, the Vikings have gone 1-4 with Christian Ponder under center.
