You may catch the ball, but you won't enjoy it.

That's the sentiment of what Albany Empire head coach Tom Menas told us on The Drive on Friday afternoon. When asked about what he liked most from the Empire's Week 1 win vs. Columbus last weekend, he praised the defense, and told us something that most fans may not have recognized right away.

He said his defense formed an identity for themselves in Week 1, and came to play every snap.

Menas praised the group of "big-hitters" for "dropping the hammer" in their Week 1 win, and told us how happy he was that his group gelled together so quickly and created a family atmosphere.

Speaking of atmosphere, he also marveled about the crowd at the Times Union Center. As a new coach, Coach T had no idea what to expect both from the crowd at the TU, and the people of the Capital Region as a whole. From everything he said, videos I saw on Twitter and people I've talked to, the 3,000 people in the stands sounded like a MUCH larger crowd during the game.

The Empire are back in action tonight! The team is on the road for the first time this season, visiting the Jersey Flight. Tommy Grady is coming off of an incredible performance, throwing eight touchdowns in Week 1, six of which went to Darius Prince, who made a huge impact on the offense right away. The team is back at the TU next Saturday, when Carolina comes to town. Make sure you visit https://www.albanyempirenal.com for tickets and more info!
