Former Columbia High School standout and University of Maryland shortstop Kevin Smith was selected 129th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays in the fourth round of the 2017 MLB Draft.

Smith is the 4th capital region player to be selected by the Blue Jays in the last 3 years; Shaker's Jeff Hoffman in 2014, Shenendehowa's Ben Anderson, and Union's Jake Fishman both drafted in 2016.

As a junior at Maryland, Smith hit .268 with 13 HR's and 48 RBI's. However, it's Smith's glove at shortstop that puts him in an elite class in this season's draft.
