The MLB season has just gotten underway and there are already storylines coming out of the New York Yankees organization.  They are using these "torpedo bats" which is basically a fatter barrel in the sweet spot of the bat.  They mashed an incredible nine homeruns in one game and over ten in their opening series win over the Milwaukee Brewers.  Now those impressive numbers won't last.  But this has now become a national story which is good for the MLB because any publicity is good publicity.  The bats are completely legal and under the guidelines written by the MLB.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

I will never overreact to the start of a very long Major League Baseball Season, but the Yankees have begun the season very impressively. Aaron Judge has 4 Home Runs in three games and more than enough help to drive in runs including an incredible nine home run barrage on Saturday. Yankee fans were wondering where the offense would come from without Juan Soto, and the Yankees have provided some early answers.

The Yankees are still in my opinion the best team in the entire American League because the AL is weaker than the NL this year.  Aaron Judge is already off to a blistering pace with four home runs and even had three in one game this past weekend.  Only time will tell how long commissioner Rob Manfred wants to keep these Torpedo Bats around.  We shall see how this plays out during the entire 2025 season.
