Where Did Shaker Grad Jeff Hoffman End Up This Offseason?
I love seeing our local section II baseball products succeed in the Big Leagues. Hoffman just signed the other day a three year $40 million contract with the Toronto Blue Jays. Hoffman is a true journey man in the MLB as he has played for the Rockies, Reds, and Phillies so far. He is coming of an all star campaign in 2024 with the Phillies but unfortunately struggles in the postseason as the Phillies got bounced by their bitter NL East rival the New York Mets. Below is my quick take on this as seen in the Times Union:
Shaker grad Jeff Hoffman goes from Philadelphia to Toronto in 2025 with expectations that he is the closer for the Blue Jays this season. Hoffman, who was drafted by Toronto in 2014, is coming off the best season of his MLB career with the Phillies and I fully expect him to be great in the closer role in Toronto. If can stay healthy he has nasty stuff and would be a perfect in his new role. The Blue Jays who finished last in the American League East season are showing plenty of confidence in the Section II pitcher by giving him a three-year deal worth $33 million contract.

I think Hoffman will succeed in Toronto. He has a terrific repertoire of pitches including a nasty slider that is his best strikeout pitch. The shaker grad is at the top of his game right now and will only get better from here. The Blue Jays now have a really good one in their bullpen.
