A local high school basketball player is on the verge of making history, as Berne-Knox Westerlo senior Garrett Pitcher could break his school's scoring record in tonight's game against Mayfield.

Pitcher has scored 23 points per game in his distinguished career and, at 984 career points, is just 16 points away from reaching the 1,000 point mark. Only one other player in school history has reached that mark.

Interestingly enough, the only other player in Berne-Knox Westerlo history to score 1,000 points was Pitcher's grandfather, who reached the mark in 1955.

The game is set to tip off tonight at 7:30 p.m.
