High School Hoops Heat Up a Capital Region Wednesday Night
Section II boys basketball played a light schedule with 8 games on Wednesday night but the girls had 15 match ups on the court. There were strong performances for both the girls and boys last night. However, there were only a few close games played in the Capital Region on Wednesday.
Since the ladies had the most games, lets start there. Fonda went into Fort Plain and shut them down 53-23, while Schoharie did the same to Galway on their home floor 58-37. Middleburgh downed Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville 51-36, as Catskill dropped 86 on Albany Leadership for a convincing win, while Corinth held down Granville 62-22.
The closest games of the night on the girls side were Warrensburg edging Whitehall in a thriller 29-28 and our friend of The Drive with Charlie & Dan, Argyle coach Terry Chamberlain got edged by North Warren 46-45 in a heartbreaker.
Now for the boys basketball side and since we are talking about friends of The Drive with Charlie & Dan, let's talk about Tamarac coach Eric Medved, still humming from their huge victory last week over #1 Class B in New York State Utica Academy of Science, and his team went in to Cambridge and shut them down 69-20. Albany took care of Averill Park 52-37. Hoosic Valley downed Hoosick Falls 57-43 while Stillwater dropped 79 on Berlin-New Lebanon for a 30 point victory. There's more...
Probably the biggest game on the docket for the boys was Albany Academy's 73-62 over Mekeel Christian Academy, while Healtly shut down Sharon Springs 39-22. Oppenheim-Ephratah-St. Johnsville beat Schoharie 47-39, as Waterford sank 90 points and Hawthorne Valley for a convincing win.
