Who Is the Next NFL Head Coach Fired After Josh McDaniels?

The Oakland Raiders were the first team to fire their head coach Josh McDaniels, after the Raiders got off to a 3-5 start and went just 9-16 during his season and a half tenue in Oakland.

So who’s the next NFL head coach to go?

According to multiple sports books, Los Angles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is the odds-on favorite with Carolina Panthers first-year head coach Frank Reich a not-to-distant second.

Here are the odds provided by New Jersey sportsbooks.

Brandon Staley, LA Chargers (3-2): It feels like Staley has been under fire, for the past few under-achieving seasons in Los Angles. After making the playoffs last season, they are 4-6 with a ton of head-scratching decisions. It feels like the end is finally here for a coach the organization seems to like more than the fans do.

Frank Reich, Carolina (5-2): It’s extremely rare for a first-year coach to get fired before his first year is even over. But the Panthers have been that bad. The former Eagles offensive coordinator and Indianapolis Colts head coach probably gets to finish the year, but a 1-9 start to the season and his offense scoring only 163 points through 10 games means its quite possible he could be one-and-done.  

Ron Rivera, Washington (3-1): The team has already fired its defensive coordinator, Jack Del Rio and defensive backs coach Brent Vieselmeyer, so Rivera, who is just 26-35-1, could be next. The team has been blown out in back-to-back weeks by NFC East foes and new owner Josh Harris could look to bring in his own coach.

Matt Eberflus, Chicago (15-2): The Bears are just 6-22 during Eberflus time in Chicago.  Second-year quarterback Justin FIelds has showed some promise but has had some injury issues. However, the future might be brighter with two first-round picks in the 2024 draft, both of which could be in the Top 5, the question is, do the Bears think Eberflus is the right person to lead the team moving forward. 

Mike Vrabel, Tennessee (8-1): Recent reports indicate that the Titans are fully committed to Vrabel, but this will be the second straight season Tennessee misses the playoff party. He had been rumored as a potential replacement for Bill Belichick in New England, but that would mean he needs to be gone. 

Which leads us to....

Bill Belichick, New England (16-1): I’m not sure Belichick is fired, but there is a good chance he doesn’t return to the Patriots sideline.  There could be some sort of mutual parting of ways with the Patriots clearly in rebuilding mode. 

Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay (33-1): Bowles has had a non-descript tenure in Tampa so far with a Tom Brady team in year one that had a ton of injuries, and Baker Mayfield leading the team this season.  Neither team has been very good, but I'm not sure he has done enough to remain.
