Patrick Kane’s First Game for Detroit Will Likely Be in Buffalo

For the last few months, Buffalo Sabres fans were anxiously waiting to see where Buffalo native and future Hockey Hall of Famer Patrick Kane would sign.

The 35-year-old scoring winger has spent the vast majority of his career with the Chicago Blackhawks, after being drafted first overall in 2007. He has won multiple Stanley Cups in Chicago but ended last season with the New York Rangers.

Kane's health has come into question. He wasn't himself last season and had hip surgery in the off-season. That rehab is why he hadn't signed until now, which was not with his hometown team, but the Detroit Red Wings.

The Red Wings officially announced they signed Kane on Tuesday evening, after it was reported in the morning.

On Wednesday afternoon, Kane revealed that he should make his Red Wings debut on Tuesday, December 5th...which happens to be at the Buffalo Sabres.

Kane's first game for Detroit being against Buffalo is about as fateful as you can get. It made sense why the Sabres would have been interested in his services. Sabres GM Kevyn Adams had the cap space to bring him in, and would have been one veteran piece upfront with a very young roster. Instead, Kane goes to another Eastern Conference team who is on the rise.

In other Sabres news, Devon Levi and Jiri Kulich was loaded to the Rochester Amerks. Levi can continue to develop and Kulich will likely be back in Buffalo soon. Forward Jordan Greenway is back with the team after missing a few days for personal reasons.
