It was so awesome to see legendary Siena men's basketball head coach Mike Deane get honored at halftime along with several players from the early 90as NIT teams.  It has been a rough season for the Siena men under Coach Carm as they currently sit 4-22 overall.  I think Carm gets a pass or a mulligan this season as he struggled with the portal and has a very young team with poor effort here down the stretch.  I think Carm will be aggressive in the offseason with the transfer portal.  Below is my quick take on this as seen in The Times Union:

Watching former Siena head coach Mike Deane and the historic 1993-94 Season being honored at halftime of Sunday's Canisius game at MVP brought back some great memories not only of that team but the incredible job Deane did during his eight years at Siena. I never saw Deane get out coached in fact just the opposite when it came to game day preparation. Point guards Doremus Bennerman and Marc Brown are now both in the Siena Hall of Fame and Deane helped develop both of those players. Not sure how Deane would handle the portal in today's coaching challenge but when it comes old school coaching back in the day there weren't many better. Good to see him and his wife Paula back in the Capital Region because in many ways he's responsible for putting Siena basketball on the map especially the memorable upset of Stanford in the first round of the 1988 NCAA tournament.

I'm glad the Deaner was back in town as he is one of my all time favorite coaches both on and off the court.
