In 1977 Dolly Parton, backed by the Gypsy Fever Band, toured the United States along side the likes of Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers. In July of 1977 Dolly teamed up with Mac Davis and made their way to the Capital Region.

Dolly Parton and Mac Davis performed 6 shows, between July 11th and July 16th, at the Colonie Coliseum Summer Theater, 629 Columbia Street Extension in Latham.

According to Time magazine, in July of 1977, Dolly would open her shows with a cover of 'Higher and Higher' followed through the set with hits such as 'Jolene', Coat of Many Colors', and 'I Will Always Love You'.

Dolly Parton only performed a hand full of times in the Capital Region playing Saratoga Performing Arts Center in 1979 and 1983, the Pepsi Arena in 2004 and the 6 shows in Latham. If you attended any of them, you are among the fortunate few.

The Starlite Music Theater opened in 1957 and was a popular venue located in Latham. There were many acts that passed through the Starlite until 1997. It was a 3,000-seat theater in the round. In the 1980s, I saw Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Go's at the Starlite Music Theater. Kenny Rogers, The Monkees, Weird Al Yankovic, Jonny Cash, Run DMC, Diana Ross, and more graced the stage. The Starlite closed its doors in 1998 and lay dormant for years. Then, in December 2012, the Starlite was demolished. Here are pictures of the venue in the summer of 2012, before it was leveled.

Parton and her husband, Carl Dean, purchased the 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom home in 1980, and they owned it until 1996. It's been on and off the market for 12 years, finally selling for $849,000 in December of 2021.
