Dear Capital Region – Can We Stop Setting Off Fireworks After Midnight?
Every neighborhood likely has to deal with this a few times of the year. Obviously July is going to be the biggest time for this, but can we stop with the fireworks after a certain period? No, I'm not talking about the regular fireworks shows that are scheduled at certain areas like Joe Bruno Stadium or up in Lake George. I'm talking about at 1am in the middle of a neighborhood waking everyone up.
Every single night since the Fourth of July I've gotten woken up in Albany to someone setting off fireworks. It was even going on before the Fourth in June. Can we just chill out?
I know that I can't be alone in being annoyed by this. It also seems to happen around New Year's Eve, too.
Let me be clear - I've got no issue with you wanting to celebrate with some fireworks. Once the holiday is over and gone, It is time to stop. Not only are you disturbing everyone around you but you're also breaking the law. I will say it must not be easy for police to do anything about fireworks since it happens so quickly. I doubt it's even worth their time to investigate it.

Fireworks are illegal in New York
A while back NYS loosened up on some fireworks in the area but many areas have since walked back their stance on fireworks. While some counties do allow for sparklers and things like that, counties like Albany have mad ALL fireworks illegal.
You can even get fined for using them in Albany County.
Any person who shall use or explode a sparkling device, or cause an exploding device to be exploded, shall be guilty of a violation punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
A $500 fine just doesn't seem worth it to me. It's double that amount if you're caught selling them.
It is July 10th. I get that America is 250 and it is fun to make things go boom, but 1am fireworks? Is that really necessary? I don't think so. By the way, yes I realize I sound like an old man shaking his fist at the sky.
