Recently, I got to visit the New York state Museum for the first time (I know, I know, I'm way late). It was an incredible experience, and a lot of the exhibits stood out, but one took the cake.

Revolutionary New York

The new exhibit, "Revolutionary New York", is meant to honor the nation's 250th birthday. It's a celebration and lesson of New York's revolutions, from the American Revolution in the late 18th century to the Civil Rights movement in the 1960s, and beyond.

It takes a look at how New York and New Yorkers have taken part of them, adapted to them, and fought for the causes they believed were just, and it has some wild things to see and learn about while you're there.

What's it Like?

The exhibit itself is effectively only one room. Starting from the left, you'll begin with the American revolution, learning about New York's part in the Battle of Saratoga and beyond. At the center is the remains of a gunboat used during the war, a centerpiece you won't soon forget.

As the exhibit moves on, you'll see pieces from the Civil War, Civil Rights era, MLB integration, and end with the the LGBTQ+ movement. There's plenty of stories to read, artifacts to check out (like George Washington's sword used by John Brown in his raid at Harper's Ferry).

If you care about history one bit, this is an exhibit you'll need to check out. It will be open until July 8th, 2029.
