Troy And Wynantskill School Districts Look To Join Forces
When I think of the greatest team-ups of all time, my mind goes to The Avengers. The X-Men. The Justice League. These see the world's most powerful heroes banding together to fight evil.
Similarly, a new team-up is in place in New York's Capital Region, but they don't want to fight evil, they want to nourish knowledge.

A Merger in the Capital Region
Starting in August of 2025, Troy City School District and Wynantskill Union Free School District began a plan to merge their two districts. The hope is to create one, larger district by the 2027-2028 school year, and plans are moving fast.
Clubs and sports have already begun merging, and allegedly, to great success. The communities have been coming together, paving the way for something bigger than themselves. But why go through all this work?
Why are the Districts Merging?
There are a few reasons this is happening. Firstly, enrollment has been slowly, but steadily, declining over the past few years, and a larger district may be the answer. Th other reason, obviously, is financial. It would bring Wynantskill into the Troy tax base, which would be equalized and bring more money for both schools.
The merger goes to a vote in Wynantskill on March 31st from noon to 9 p.m. If this vote passes, it goes to the Troy Board of education, who will have to pass their own vote before the merger is allowed. There's still a ways to go, but spirits are high for a new era in Troy education.
