Jack Eichel Gives Young Hockey Fan the Cold Shoulder
The Buffalo Sabres have made great strides this season, getting back into a playoff race and attempting to break their postseason drought for the first time in 11 years.
Sabres fans have had to endure two different rebuilds since 2013 and it's been incredibly tough on the region, since it's not a common accomplishment to go that long without a playoff berth.
One of the turning points of this recent turnaround was trading away disgruntled forward Jack Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights, which was back in November of 2021.
Eichel was dealt to Vegas for a first round draft pick and forwards Alex Tuch and Peyton Krebs.
It's worked out incredibly well for Buffalo.
Tuch has 28 goals this season and was on a pace for over 90 points before his week-to-week injury this past weekend. Krebs is developing into a two-way forward, while the first round pick turned into center Noah Ostlund.
Eichel's disagreement on which neck surgery he should get was the end of his time in Buffalo, as he wanted out of another rebuild with the Sabres.
Eichel currently has 43 points in 47 games this season, with Vegas currently in a playoff spot. Eichel has never made the playoffs.
One video of a recent Golden Knights game is getting attention on Twitter this past week, with a young Golden Knights fan pounding on the glass during warmups, hoping to get the attention of Eichel.
Eichel did not turn around until before he skated away and did not acknowledge the kid with a smile.
Is it fair to condemn Eichel for this? No, but it just adds to the laundry list of reasons Sabres fans do not think highly of Eichel, which came to a head after his return to Buffalo in March of 2022...when he said it took him coming back to Buffalo to get loud in the arena.
"It only took 7 years and me leaving for them to get into the game..."
"They must just be booing me, because they wish I was still here..."
