Former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno has been diagnosed with lung cancer according to a statement released to the media by his son Scott earlier today. According to the Associated Press the form of cancer Paterno has is treatable and Paterno has already commenced treatments. The 84 year old Paterno was diagnosed last weekend.

Penn State recently fired Paterno amid child molestation allegations against his former staffer, Jerry Sandusky.

According to the American Cancer Society, lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer in the United States. November is "Lung Cancer Awareness Month."
