We hear this every week seemingly... "It's the "Catch of the Year!" And usually it is, for a week or so.

But this play by Josh Donaldson in yesterday's Blue Jays/Rays game could stand up for a while. It's certainly among the best catches I've seen this year, or ever.

I think what does it for me is the full extension into the crowd. Donaldson gets parallel and goes over multiple rows.

If you want to compare this play to Derek Jeter's famous catch in the stands, you can be the judge for yourself:

We'll have to ask Levack which one he thinks is better...Hmm, I wonder which way that will go.

The Blue Jays won that game 1-0 in 12 innings. The Rays loss coupled with the Yankees win over the Phillies means that the Yanks are now just one game behind Tampa Bay in the American League East race.
