JP Sportman Back on the Diamond

After missing significant time this year with injury, LaSalle graduate JP Sportman is back on the field for the Oakland A's organization.

Having not played since June 13, Sportman began a rehab assignment on Sunday with the Arizona League Athletics.

He's 2-6 so far for the A's affiliate in Arizona. He has spent the whole season with the Stockton Ports of the California League (Hi-A ball). His teammate in Stockton is Branden Cogswell of Shenendehowa.

Sportman has hit .297 this year while posting a .338 on-base percentage. He's an outfielder with good speed and good pop in his bat.

He also missed time earlier in the year from May 6-May 30.
