Mets Lose Mejia to Disabled List
NEW YORK (AP) — For the second straight season, the New York Mets' closer hasn't made it past opening day.
Jenrry Mejia was put on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of inflammation in the back of his elbow. He was examined by Mets medical director Dr. David Altchek, underwent X-ray and MRI scans and was given a cortisone injection.
New York says Mejia won't be available to pitch in a game for at least 10 days and was put on the DL retroactive to Sunday. Right-hander Erik Goeddel will be recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas of the Pacific Coast League before Wednesday night's game at Washington.
