The hiring of Mickey Callaway as the new manager of the Mets surprised me, because we didn’t know much about him and he’s a pitching coach. Not many pitching coaches become managers, but Callaway gets a shot. The fact he spent a lot of time next to Terry Francona in Cleveland should tell you something about what he has learned, and he seems to have the a personality that the players will like. He has no managerial experience but neither did Dave Roberts 2 years ago, and he has the Dodgers in the World Series.
