Yesterday saw the UAlbany Great Danes women's lacrosse hang tough and nearly upset the No. 4 ranked Syracuse Orange at John Fallon Field on the campus at Albany.

The Orange pulled out an 8-7 win over the Great Danes and are now 12-3 while UAlbany is 7-4. But the story of the day wasn't the game, it was the experience surrounding the return of 'Cuse star and Niskayuna graduate Kayla Treanor.

And Treanor did her part to add to the excitement, scoring a goal:

Treanor is a two-time Tewaaraton Award finalist (the equivalent of the lacrosse Heisman Trophy) and has 57 points this season to lead the Orange. She also leads Syracuse in goals with 22.

She finished last season with 60 goals and 91 total points to tie for the team lead. Perhaps the third time will be the charm for Treanor in the Tewaaraton Award.

Remember that UAlbany players Lyle and Miles Thompson won the award two years ago while Lyle won it again last year, so the Capital Region has a connection to the award.
