With the release of the first set of College Football Playoff rankings, someone who follows it all more closely than anyone else made an interesting observation: there is no standard baseline of judgment being used by the committee.

ESPN's Heather Dinich got different answers and explanations for why teams are ranked where they are headed into a weekend that will assuredly shake up the top 4. Even with the imminent changes, it doesn't mean the initial rankings are moot. If the philosophies used to shape the current rankings holds, we'll look back on this week for better understanding on how the committee views teams a month from now.

Three of the top four teams face formidable tests this weekend; #2 LSU at #3 Alabama and #4 Penn State at Minnesota.
