The Yankees should be worried about what the Red Sox are doing. Despite finishing last in the American League East last season with a 78-84 record, the BoSox are continuing to push all the right buttons this offseason.

While star power and lofty contracts don't make you an instant contender, the Red Sox have acquired the right pieces to overtake the Yanks in 2016.

Having already acquired flamethrowing closer Craig Kimbrel from San Diego, the Sox acquired starter Roenis Elias and reliever Carson Smith from the Mariners on Monday at the Winter Meetings.

Elias is a competent back-end starter who will eat innings if given a chance to compete for a spot in the Boston rotation.

He's got a 3.97 ERA in two seasons. He's left-handed and features a great curveball. Smith is the real prize for Boston, who is revamping its bullpen. He served as a closer in the second half for Seattle, and features one of the best sliders in baseball.
