Schuylerville Wrestler Wins Third Title; Male Athlete Of The Month
About two weeks ago Schuylerville Senior Orion Anderson won his third consecutive wrestling title after competing in his fourth consecutive Division II State Championship match. The Times Union newspaper honors a local athlete every month and after pinning his opponent in 1:34 on February 24th to capture his third straight state championship Anderson has been named the male athlete of February.
"There might have been a little tears," Anderson said afterwards. "Knowing that was the last time I was going to step on a mat in high school. I love wrestling here and I'm going to miss it."
Orion Anderson has now won state titles at 106 pounds in 2016 and 120 pounds in 2017, 126-pound champion, by pinning Port Jefferson's Vince Miceli. Anderson's first championship match four years ago is the only one he didn't bring home where he lost a unanimous decision Waverly's A.J. Burkhart in the 99-pound final.
This is a great feature by the Times Union and we wish Orion the best of luck moving forward.
