The snow fell hard on Saturday morning in the Capital Region. The storm delayed many of the scheduled New York State Public High School Championship quarterfinal basketball games. However, the weather-pause didn't cool off 8 out of 10 red-hot Section 2 boys and girls basketball teams. Here are the results.

In the Class AA boys, Section 2 champ Green Tech knocked off Section 3 winner Liverpool in overtime 71-67. Green Tech advances to take on Section 6 quarterfinal winner Jamestown in the semi-finals on Friday. That game will be at the Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls scheduled for a 7:45pm tip-off. In the Class AA girls, Section 2 champ Albany High School fell in overtime to Section 3 winner Cicero-North Syracuse 62-60. Congratulations to the Falcons on a great season.

In the Class A girls, Section 2 champ Averill Park rolled Section 3 winner Bishop Luden 67-43. Averill Park will advance to the semi-finals to play Section 11 champ West Babylon on Friday at Hudson Valley Community College at 11:45am. In the Class A boys, Section 2 champ Mekeel Christian couldn't hold on to a lead, as Section 3 winner New Hartford downed Mekeel 49-47.

Get ready. The rest are all Section 2 winners! In the Class B boys, friend of The Drive with Charlie & Dan, coach Will Ferguson led Section 2 champ Icabod Crane to a convincing win over Section 7 champ Plattsburgh 75-31. Icabod Crane advances to the semi-finals take on Section 6 winner Allegany-Limestone on Saturday at the Cool. That is scheduled for a 2:15pm tip. In the Class B girls, Section 2 champ Schalmont rolled over Section 7 champ Saranac 54-30. Schalmont advances to the semis to take on Section 3 champ General Brown on Saturday. That is scheduled for a 2:15pm tip at HVCC.

Now for the Class C quarterfinals, first the girls. Section 2 champ Duanesburg pounded Section 7 winner Northern Adirondack 79-54. Duanesburg continues their quest for a state title in the semi-finals against Section 4 winner Newark Valley. That game is at HVCC on Saturday at 10:45am. In the Class C boys quarterfinals, Section 2 champ, Stillwater, led by another friend of The Drive coach Bruce Lilac, got by Section 7 winner Moriah 55-52. Stillwater advances to take on Section 6 champ Salamanca Friday at 2:45pm at the Cool Insuring Arena.

Finally in Class D action, Section 2 champion Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville defeated Section 7 winner Seton Catholic Central 57-47. Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville advances to take on Section 5 winner Prattsburgh Central/Avoca Central on Friday at 11:15am at the Cool. In the Class D girls quarterfinals, Section 2 winner Hartford Central knocked off Section 7 winner Boquet Valley 57-51. Harford Central advances to take on Section 3 winner Copenhagen in the semis on Friday at 8pm at HVCC. Best of luck to all of our Section 2 teams this weekend!

Great Time For A Late Winter On The Albany Rail Trail

According to the Albany County website, the Albany County Helderberg-Hudson Rail Trail stretches nine miles along the old Delaware & Hudson (D&H) Railroad between the Port of Albany and Voorheesville.
