Yesterday on the field in Appleton, Wisc., the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons captured the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championship in baseball.

The Red Dragons topped the University of Wisconson - La Crosse by a score of 6-2. Cortland went 5-0 at the World Series after capturing the New York Regional which also featured New York teams RPI, Oswego, and Old Westbury.

Cortland features two Section II products in Spa Catholic pitcher Jesse Winters and Niskayuna's Austin Clock.

Clock started 47 games for the Red Dragons, playing first base. He hit .317 on the year and was third on the team in RBIs with 40. He was also third on the team in hits with 57.

Cortland traditionally does a job recruiting in the Section II area. Shenendehowa 2B Andrew Pedone is already committed to Cortland for 2016.

The Red Dragons finished 45-4 on the year. The title is a great thing for the New York Region, as well as the SUNYAC Conference.

As several Section II players flood the New York region each year, it's nice to see it has a chance of leading to the national title.
