Back on May 3rd of 2015, Danny Mendick was playing shortstop for UMass-Lowell over at University Field, on the campus of UAlbany. The Rochester, New York native went 1-3 with 2 walks and a run scored in the America East match-up. The former Riverhawk played a flawless shortstop that day. A few weeks later, Mendick was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 22nd round of the MLB draft. Fast forward 7-years and a few months and that former foe of the Great Danes, Danny Mendick, just signed a $1 million contract to play for Steve Cohen's star-studded, super-team in Queens.

Baseball is a funny game and a Major League clubhouse can be an interesting place. Respect from veteran players doesn't come easy. Younger players and journeyman are merely taking another guy's job. So, when a 12 year-veteran All Star buys the entire team replica tee-shirt jerseys of your name and number, that's a pretty big honor.

Travis Jankowski has been around a little. He broke into the big leagues in 2015 with the Padres and played parts of the next 5 seasons in San Diego. In 2020, Jankowski played for Cincinnati and last year, he was with Joe Girardi and the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, the former UAlbany nemesis is fighting for a roster spot with the Mets. Stillwater native and UAlbany Baseball head coach Jon Mueller announced the Great Danes' 2022 season schedule. The 48-game slate features 18 games at Varsity Field and 30 games on the road. In typical Coach Mueller fashion, UAlbany will open with one of the toughest baseball programs in the country, the Georgia Bulldogs. Georgia plays in collegiate baseball's #1 conference the SEC.

Great Danes Coach Jon "Bam Bam" Mueller Joined Levack and Goz earlier this week

The University of Albany Great Danes Baseball team is currently waiting to see who they'll play in the America East Tournament but they've won a major honor. Head Coach Jon "Bam Bam" Mueller is the unanimous winner of the America East Coach of the Year. As someone who has had the pleasure of talking baseball with and getting to know Coach Mueller I can't think of a better person to win this honor. As you would expect Bam Bam even handles winning with humility and gratitude.
