The Special Olympics USA Games will be held in Seattle, Washington from July 1st to July 6th. This is a great opportunity for our local athletes as Team NY's delegation includes 53 athletes, in which five are unified partners; 17 coaches and 3 youth leaders. Joining us today in studio are some of those Unified athletes.
Thanks to radio I've had the opportunity meet some amazing people. When I first got to 104.5 The Team we did a week long fundraising event with the Special Olympics of New York. During that week I met the Lawless family Eddie, his brother Anthony and their mother Colette. The Lawless family was recently flown to Chicago to help announce "A new global relationship between United Airlines and the Special Olympics."
Last night when the LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers played the Celtics in Boston, the Celtics honored Special Olympian Aaron Miller. LeBron proved yet again he gets "it." James took the time to run over and show respect to Aaron. James said Miller's story moved him and he noticed he was wearing shoes James himself helped develope for kids that have trouble tying their own shoes.
Over 6,500 athletes alongside their family and friends filled the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum this past Sunday to celebrate the ending of the 2015 Special Olympic World Games. As the games come to a close, those who've competed are left with imprinted memories that they can carry with them forever...
The contest is over. I was able to dust WGNA's Casey Danton in a rappelling race on Friday. It was all in good fun and for a great cause. Witness the beatdown for yourself.
