Terrifying Practice For 75 Upstate New York Youth Soccer Players

With everything that is going on in the news these days, sending your kids anywhere can have some parents on edge. Youth soccer practice for 6 to 11 year-olds can usually be seen as a sure bet for at providing a safe atmosphere. However, on Tuesday about 75 soccer players and their families had a different experience and got true scare right on their field.

According to an article by Elizabeth Doran of syracuse.com, just after 6pm on Tuesday, while youth soccer practice getting underway in Lynsander, New York, a car came speeding through the field crashing though a soccer goal and eventually into a tree.

Doran spoke to a mother of one of the children, Amber Atkinson who said she was "talking with other soccer moms when she heard a blood-curdling scream. She whipped her head around as other parents screamed, and saw a red car come hurtling across the Lysander Town Park soccer field where about 75 young players had just started practice."

The report on syracuse.com said that a few of the players were talking to a coach right by a soccer goal net when the car veered off the road, crashed through a chain-link fence and went right through the soccer goal before hitting a tree. “It was terrifying,” Atkinson told syracuse.com. “It’s a miracle none of the kids got hurt. All the pieces fell into place. A minute longer and it could have been awful.”

Reportedly, the 29-year-old driver of the vehicle had suffered a medical episode, which caused him to drive off Hencle Boulevard, Sgt. Jon Seeber, a spokesperson for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office told syracuse.com. The driver was transported to Upstate University Hospital for further medical treatment. Hopefully, he to recovers from this terrifying event, as well.
