Pete Alonso Involved in Scary Car Wreck in Tampa

The star in question was, in fact, the Polar Bear, Pete Alonso. Driving in his car by himself on Sunday, Alonso was hit by a driver who had blown through a red light. According to reports obtained by ESPN, Alonso's car flipped three times, before finally coming to rest on its side.

Pete Alonso's wife, Haley, posted a video of the damage on her Instagram account. Brace yourselves for it, because it's pretty rough:

As you can see, the car is completely totaled, and it would appear that Alonso was fairly lucky to be walking into spring training this morning.

Apparently, Alonso shares that same sentiment.

When asked about his close call, Alonso had this to say:

"'I'm thankful to be alive,' Alonso added. 'I'm really thankful that I'm healthy, very thankful to be here. Anything can happen at any given moment. I'm just really, really blessed to be here.'" - Pete Alonso through ESPN

Alonso is expected to be a full participant in workouts tomorrow, according to the report.

On the 2022 New York Mets

It's been no secret that the New York Mets are willing to spend *whatever* it takes to compete for, and win, a World Series title this season. Mets' owner Steve Cohen has exceeded the league's luxury tax threshold by roughly $40 million this season, and appears poised to continue his spending up until Opening Day.

The Mets have added multiple quality arms to their rotation, including Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt, and have added weapons to their lineup as well, including Starling Marte, Mark Canha and more.

These players join the core of Alonso, Jacob deGrom, Francisco Lindor and more, all of whom will pursue a 2022 title for the blue and orange.

Luckily, it looks as though Alonso will remain a part of that group without missing a beat.
