U.S. Men’s Hoops Beats Argentina 126-97
Team USA beat Argentina 126-97 on Monday night. One of the biggest storylines in the game was Carmelo Anthony getting hit in the groin by an Argentinian player.
The U.S. men's hoops squad used a huge run in the 3rd quarter to defeat Argentina 126-97 in the final game of group play on Monday night. The United States only had a one-point lead at halftime (60-59), but outscored Argentina 42-17 in the 3rd quarter.
Carmelo Anthony was hit in the groin by Argentinian point guard Facundo Campazzo. After Anthony hit a three-point shot as time expired in the 3rd quarter, Campazzo tapped Carmelo in the groin. It was a blatant sign of disrespect that definitely caught the attention of Team USA.
Coach K had to be separated from Luis Scola following Campazzo's groin punch to Anthony. The U.S. players and Carmelo Anthony were visibly upset as well. I'd love to see a rematch between these two teams before the tournament is all said and done. A punch to the groin tends to get the attention of everybody. Team USA finishes up group play with a perfect 5-0 record. The knockout round begins for the U.S. on Wednesday against Australia at 11:15am ET.
