That was a real question that was submitted on our Facebook page yesterday. It took me by surprise a bit, but when I read it, I started to do some digging.

As it turns out, not only does the Albany area have a rich history in sports, but it has one of the most unique sports histories of any market I've ever seen.

The Albany Patroons won multiple titles in the CBA in the 1980's, teams that had multiple players and coaches play in the NBA. The Albany River Rats mixed young and old to win a Calder Cup, TWO (2) iterations of the Albany Empire won league titles, and the Knickerbocker/Pepsi/Times Union Arena/Center has been the backdrop to countless more memories.
