UAlbany women's lacrosse coach John Battaglino has been named the Division 1 Coach of the Year by WomensLax.com.

Battaglino had already been named America East Coach of the Year last week, after finishing the greatest season in program history. Battaglino led the Great Danes to the America East regular-season and tournament titles, as well as a school record for single-season victories (18).

UAlbany had entered the NCAA Tournament as the only Division I program to go undefeated through the regular season, eventually losing to second-ranked Northwestern in the NCAA Quarterfinals. It was the Great Danes' first NCAA tournament appearance since the program became a varsity sport in 1992.

Under the guidance of Battaglino, UAlbany ranks second nationally in scoring defense, second in scoring margin and 18th in scoring offense. The team also ranked in the Top 10 nationally in both the Media and Coaches Polls for the first time in program history.
