In the midst of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, the U.S. Men's National Team ripped off a 12-game winning streak and gave rise to the hope that the stars and stripes could make a legitimate run in the world's grandest sporting event.

That hope was all but annihilated on Friday, though, when the United States drew into a group containing the world's 2nd and 5th best teams according to FIFA's rankings.

Those teams, Germany and Portugal, will headline the U.S.'s group G and be heavily favored to advance.  Rounding out the group is the African nation of Ghana, who knocked the U.S. out of the World Cup in 2010.
