In 2016, Maine-Endwell Little League, which is near Binghamton, became the first New York team to win the Little League World Series in 52 years with a 2-1 victory over Seoul, South Korea in the championship. Staten Island defeated Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico in 1964 prior to that. So, you get the point. Now, the Empire State has another team that may be able to deliver the Little League hardware.

According to Mark W. Sanchez of nypost.com, Massapequa Coast Little League, which is on Long Island, defeated Fairfield American of Connecticut on Monday in Bristol, Connecticut by a score of 7-5. The semi-final took a lot out of the team and its coaches. “It’s been an emotionally draining and physically draining day,” Head Coach Roland Clark told nypost.com over the phone after a game with about three and a half hours of delays. “For 12-year-old boys on both teams, for how each team responded and what they went through … was just tremendous.”

The victory advances Massapequa Coast and their 11 players to the Metro Region championship on Friday in Bristol. The game will be broadcast on the ESPN networks. Clark is extremely proud of what his team has been able to accomplish. “We’re not the biggest team,” Clark told Sanchez of The Post. “We might not have the pitchers that throw the hardest, but we have 11 boys that can play any position, and defense is something that my coaches and myself have stressed for a long time with these kids.”

Coaching kids though tournaments is not an easy task. 11 and 12 year old kids are going through a lot emotionally without the pressure of being on ESPN and representing your hometown and the State of New York. These games, like Monday's, can be long and grueling. Enabling your team to respond to those conditions positively is a chore. Good luck Coach Clark and Massapequa Coast, New York has your back!
