Mark Teixeira homered in the bottom of the first inning off of Jason Vargas to give the Yanks a 2-0 lead, and the Pinstripes never looked back, beating KC by a score of 5-1 on Tuesday night in the Bronx.

For Teixeira, it was his 14th homer of the year. The win pushes the Yankees to 24-22 on the year while dropping the AL representatives in the 2014 World Series to 28-17.

Adam Warren got the win to move himself to 3-3. He tossed 6.1 innings, allowing one run. He walked none while striking out five.

Leading 2-0 into the fifth inning, the Yanks scored three times in the fifth inning to balloon the lead to 5-0. Teixeira doubled in Chris Young and Alex Rodriguez to make it 4-0 before Chase Headley brought Tex home on a sac fly to make it 5-0.

The Royals got their lone run in the sixth on a homer from Paulo Orlando.

The two teams play at 1 p.m. this afternoon. Michael Pineda will match up with Chris Young.
