Perhaps the Bills are sending a message to current kicker Dan Carpenter...

Carpenter, who has kicked for the Bills for the last three years after spending several seasons in Miami, has missed one extra-point and two field goals this season. Both missed field goals have come in the last two weeks.

With the new extra-point rules, kicker has become a volatile position, with several teams looking for replacements for their opening day starters.

Cundiff kicked last year for the Browns, going just 22-29 on field goals and 28-28 on extra-points.

Cundiff has played for five teams already in his career, including the Cowboys, Ravens, Saints, Redskins, and Browns.

While his signing could be sending a message to Carpenter, it also gives the Bills insurance as Carpenter has been dealing with a minor knee issue, according to CBSsports.com.

Head coach Rex Ryan was also reportedly unhappy with Carpenter's performance in the preseason.

The Bills take on the Titans this week.
