With the rains that poured on the Capital Region this week, I wasn't even sure we'd have enough games played to get in a true "Athlete of the Week" selection.

Well, all those doubts were countered in Thursday's Class A Girls' lacrosse final between Guilderland and Shenendehowa.

In a 17-7 sectional championship win by the Dutchmen, Syracuse-bound senior Cara Quimby scored nine goals. NINE goals. She had 88 goals heading into the contest. She finishes the Section II season with 97 as we head into the State tournament.

Quimby will play for the Orange next year -- and join Niskayuna graduate and Tewaaraton nominee Kayla Treanor. This will give Syracuse a pronounced Section II presence on its roster.

Treanor lost the Tewaaraton Award last night to Taylor Cummings of Maryland. UAlbany standout Lyle Thompson won the award for the second consecutive season on the men's side.

Guilderland won its first Section II title since 2013 with the win. They will play Suffern on Saturday at UAlbany. Game time is 2 p.m.
