Section II Football Crowns Its Champions
Ten of the top Section II high school football teams in their Classes faced off this weekend for their championships. Surprises are plenty this time of year. Regular season dominators, like undefeated Shaker High School, fell to red hot teams like Shenendehowa in the AA semi-finals. Then there were teams like Ravena that got pounded by Glens Falls 42-0 in the last week of the regular season, only to turn around the next week and see Ravena upset Glens Falls 35-28 in the semis. That's what happens in mid November in high school football. Friday and Saturday teams played for the crowns.

The quarterfinals of the Section II boys' basketball tournament are the best days of the high school sports season, in my opinion. The Class AA quarters at Hudson Valley CC on Saturday afternoon saw four games, three of which were very competitive...

Lucious Jordan. That's a name that should be very recognizable to Capital Region basketball fans. The same Lucious Jordan that came out of Colonie High School. The same Lucious Jordan that helped lead UAlbany to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 2006...

Look, I feel like I've been saying this for a while, but Albany High School football is going to be good. The Falcons hadn't won a Class AA game since 2007 coming into this year - and they started out this season 0-6. But the Falcons beat Colonie to break that streak, and then beat two Class A opponents in Mohon and Averill Park to close the season on a three-game winning streak...
