Coach Tom Izzo and his Michigan State Spartans are the new number one team in both the AP and USA Today Coaches polls. The Spartans picked up sixty two of a possible sixty four first place votes in the latest AP poll. Coach Tom Izzo's bunch benefited from a loss from the previous number one team Kentucky. The Wildcats lost to UCLA 87-77 last week.  Michigan State gained much of its support from their 9-0 record, their success from last season's Final Four run and an impressive win over the now second ranked Kansas Jayhawks, 79-73. The biggest riser in the AP Poll this week was the Baylor Bears who jumped nine spots to 16th overall. The Bears picked up a close win over Vanderbilt on Sunday night, 69-67. The Syracuse Orange took the big dive this week in the polls after two losses. After winning the Battle of Atlantis the Orange jumped from unranked to 14th. After suffering losses to Wisconsin and Georgetown, the Orange fell back to being unranked. Coach Mike Hopkins will continue to fill in for the next five games for Syracuse as Coach Jim Boeheim serves his suspension handed down by the NCAA. Syracuse and Texas A&M were the only two teams to drop out of the AP Poll this week. Butler and Utah are the new additions to this week's poll. The Bulldogs came in at 18th while the Utes came in at 25th.
