Astros Complete Draft, Including Locals Christian Garcia & Zach Remillard
The Houston Astros complete their draft on Wednesday afternoon and it included two players with local connections.
La Salle Institute graduate Zach Remillard (38th round) and Saratoga Catholic grad Christian Garcia (29th round) were both chosen by the Astros.
Garcia, who spent one season at the University at Albany and is currently at Florence-Darlington Tech., was taken with the 879th selection.
Remillard, who just finished his senior season at La Salle, was taken with the 1,149th selection. Remillard has committed to attend Coastal Carolina, where his brother Will just transferred, so it'll be interesting to see if he signs and if he does, would he play, literally, in the backyard or where he went to high school.
The Astros also had the No. 1 selection, choosing shortstop Carlos Correa, who likely won't be headed here to play with the Tri-City ValleyCats.
Here are the rest of the Houston's selections, some of which will be headed to Troy, to play for the ValleyCats, the short-season Class A affiliate of the Astros. The ValleyCats open the 2012 season on June 18, at Vermont.
