Yes, this really happened.  Check out the video to understand the context of Bill Raftery’s odd question.

Notre Dame beat Pittsburgh 51-42 on Monday evening.  The Fighting Irish missed 18 of their first 19 and trailed 19-3 at the beginning of the game.  The Irish clawed back in the game thanks to Jack Cooley’s game-high 13 points.  Sure, 13 points isn’t anything to write home about, but the final score was 51-42 for cryin out loud.

ESPN’s Bill Raftery was talking about Notre Dame’s Jerian Grant heating up in the second half.  After only scoring two points on 0-of-7 shooting in the first half, Grant scored 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting.  Raftery mentioned that teams should ride the hot player.

Raftery then turned to Jay Bilas and said, “Have you ever been ridden?”  Bilas replied by saying, “Not as a hot player.”  Play-by-play man Sean McDonough then quickly said, “Lets just move quickly ahead to further action due to time constraints.”  It was a very funny line by McDonough.  Both Bilas and McDonough did a masterful job of turning a weird comment into a funny moment.
