The Empire 8 Athletic Conference has announced their season awards this year and one Capital Region athlete garnered recognition. Lauren Serotta, a first year athlete from Alfred University received second all conference honors. The former Niskayuna athlete grabbed the distinction in her first season of competition at the collegiate level.

Serotta earned second team honors in the 100 back stroke and the 200 backstroke at the Empire 8 Championships. She opened her weekend on Friday, swimming at a time of 59.69 in the 100 back to place her in a position good enough for second place. The first year athlete returned the next day to break two school records.The previous record (2:14.59) was beat by Serotta. Niskayuna's own hit a 2:12.84 in the preliminary round of the 200-yard backstroke before racing to a 2:11.34 in the finals to take second in the event. Serotta and her teammates finished the meet in fourth place overall.
