Cespedes Fuels Mets Rout
Newly-acquired slugger Yoenis Cespedes isn't wasting any time endearing himself to his new Mets teammates: He went 3-5 with three doubles and four RBIs last night as the Mets beat the Marlins 12-1.
Along with Cespedes, Curtis Granderson also had a big night, going 3-5 with two RBIs. Last year's first-round draft pick Michael Conforto also went 2-4 with his first major league home run.
Conforto, the Oregon State standout, is hitting .261 as he tries to help the Mets offense make a playoff push.
The Mets moved into first place in the NL East with the win and a Nationals loss. The Mets are 7-3 in their last 10 games and are fresh off a sweep of the Nationals.
Bartolo Colon got the win on the mound for the Mets, tossing eight innings with one run and five strikeouts. The win moves Colon to 10-10 on the year.
The Mets are Marlins play again tonight at 7:10 in South Florida.
