In a move that hurts my Seattle Mariners-loving heart, the Yankees have acquired Dustin Ackley from the M's for Ramon Flores and Jose Ramirez.

Ackley, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2009 draft, never panned out offensively in Seattle, as many haven't.

He has a career .243 batting average and a measly .306 on-base percentage. However, I think he'll perform well for the Yankees.

1. Ackley was drafted as a 2B but converted to an OF in the 2013 season. He gives the Yankees needed depth and flexibility at both possible positions.

2. Ackley was one of the most polished bats in the 2009 draft class, and John Manuel of Baseball America told me that he thought Ackley was a lock to hit in the big leagues. He still has the potential at only 27-years-old. The short porch and lineup length the Yankees have will give him a chance to succeed.

3. Don't feel too bad about the prospects given up, Yankee fans. Flores was just the 27th overall prospect in the Yankees organization and Ramirez has had a cup of coffee in the big leagues thus far.

4. Ackley is known for his beard, and that will have to go with the Yankees.

5. It's the third time in recent memory that the Yanks and M's have connected on a trade. Michael Pineda and Ichiro Suzuki are recent Mariners to get shipped to New York.
