A story from New York Upstate shared the news that four video games are set to be inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame, which is a part of The Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, New York.
The Hall was opened in June of 2015, and is set to induct its ninth class of video games in 2023. Every game that enters these hallowed halls in Rochester must meet four basic criteria. Those are:
- Icon Status
- Longevity
- Geographical Reach
- Influence
The Hall of Fame inducted six video games as part of its inaugural class in 2015. Those games were Doom, Pong, Pac-Man, Tetris, Super Mario Bros. and World of Warcraft. A number of notable titles have been added to the Hall of Fame since that time, including The Legend of Zelda, Grand Theft Auto III, John Madden Football, Mortal Kombat, Super Mario Kart, Minecraft and more.
Last year's Hall of Fame induction class included Dance-Dance Revolution, Ms. Pac-Man, Sid Meier's Civilization and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
