"He also ran from home to first in 3.8 seconds on a ground ball from the right side, I mean that is Mike Trout Level speed."

That, right there, is enough to make you a believer in Niskayuna senior OF Garrett Whitley.

Whitley, who joined us yesterday, has been projected to be a first round draft pick in June's MLB draft. The Wake Forest commit has been mocked anywhere from No. 1 to No. 20.

This morning, I found out exactly what makes Whitley special and what gives him a chance to be drafted so high from John Manuel, the Editor-in-Chief of Baseball America. Baseball America is the foremost authority on all things baseball, so Manuel is among the top people in the industry you can hear from on Whitley's prospects.

Manuel also said that while he doesn't think Whitley is Mike Trout because there is only one Trout, "If there is a Mike Trout in this draft...it could be Garrett Whitley. He's the guy who fits that profile, the Northeast high school outfielder, with speed, where you're trying to evaluate the bat."

We all got a little smarter for having heard this analysis. We're going to talk to one more draft expert on Whitley this week, and then hopefully continue breaking down Whitley right before and right after he is selected.
