For the second straight season, the New York Giants put together a truly disastrous Week 1 performance.

363 days after being stomped by the Dallas Cowboys, 40-0, to open the 2023 NFL season, Big Blue began the 2024 campaign with a similarly pathetic showing. This time, it was the Sam Darnold-led Minnesota Vikings who beat the Giants in front of their home fans.

It was a lackluster showing from the entire team, and specifically, from their quarterback, Daniel Jones. Jones put together the third-worst game of his career (based on passer rating) on Sunday afternoon. In his first game since November 5, 2023, he threw for just 186 yards and two interceptions, including a pick-six.

As bad as Jones' performance was, it did not excuse what transpired at MetLife Stadium after the game was over:

Look, I completely understand that Jones has been a source of great frustration for Giants' fans. As a fan of the team myself, I feel that pain with all of you.

That said, waiting for a player after the game, only to boo, jeer and insult him takes it a bit too far.

It's become abundantly clear that this season is going to be a struggle for Jones, and for the Giants as a whole. The last thing he needs is for fans to gang-up on him outside the stadium.

If he is performing poorly during a game, fans can (and will) boo and jeer to their heart's content. After the game is over, however, is the time to let it go and move on, and hopefully, Jones will do the same.

The Giants hit the road to take on the Washington Commanders in Week 2. It seems to be a well-timed road game for Big Blue.
