Last weekend was a great weekend for high school sports in the Capital Region.  We had four teams win state championships, two for baseball and two for softball.  Averill Park won Class A and Chatham won Class C for baseball.  Ichabod Crane won Class B and Greenwich won Class C for Softball.  Averill Park Head Coach George Brooks has completely turned around this AP baseball program.  They are now legitimate contenders all thanks to him.  He brought valuable experience to their program and it is obviously paying off.  Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:

Head Coach George Brooks has done a remarkable job with the Averill Park baseball program, and now AP can celebrate with a Class A State Championship. Brooks who won two State Titles at Hoosic Valley, added another to his resume as the head coach at Averill Park when the Warriors beat Hamburg 3-0 on Saturday to win the Class A state Championship. Brooks took over the program five years ago, and he has quickly changed the climate.  He teaches about being a good teammate first and foremost and playing the game the right way, and it’s all paid off. Congratulations to all the Section II State Championship teams.

As the high school sports season comes to an end, I want to personally thank Big Game James Allen for his great work with us during the entire high school sports season.  I cant wait until they pick back up again with high school football in the fall.
